The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced plans to introduce a Single Journey Emergency Passport (STEP) to help Nigerians overseas whose passports are misplaced, stolen, or expired, enabling them to return dwelling securely.
The STEP will exchange the prevailing Emergency Journey Certificates (ETC) and can be issued at designated Nigerian embassies and consulates overseas.
The announcement was made by the Comptroller-Common of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, throughout the Joint Thematic Assembly of the Khartoum, Rabat, and Niamey Processes, organized and co-hosted by Nigeria in collaboration with the Authorities of France.
The disclosure was contained in an announcement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinlabi, on Wednesday.
In line with Nandap, the STEP passport can be legitimate for single-entry journey, offering safe and verifiable identification for Nigerians returning dwelling.
