The Nigeria Police have launched Kano-based journalist Ibrahim Dan’uwa Rano following widespread condemnation from the Centre for Info Expertise and Improvement (CITAD), Amnesty Worldwide, and different civil society organizations.

Rano, who was arrested and detained on the Zonal Police Headquarters in Kano over allegations of defamation, was described by rights teams as a sufferer of illegal and unconstitutional arrest aimed toward silencing the media.

CITAD and Amnesty Worldwide had earlier demanded his quick and unconditional launch, warning that the motion violated press freedom and Nigeria’s Structure.
