    BCAI, Malala Fund push for equitable budgeting to advance ladies’ schooling in Kano

    Bridge Join Africa Initiative (BCAI), with help from the Malala Fund, has known as for equitable and inclusive budgeting to advertise ladies’ schooling in Kano State.

    The decision was made in the course of the Kano Women’ Training Summit held on Friday below the Bridging Entry to Women’ Training (BAGE) mission with the theme: “Investing in Her Future: Advancing Women’ Training by way of Equitable Budgeting.”

    The summit introduced collectively policymakers, schooling stakeholders, conventional and spiritual leaders, improvement companions and civil society teams to deliberate on sustainable methods for financing ladies’ schooling.

    Talking on the occasion, Government Director of BCAI, Mr. Sani Muhammad, represented by the organisation’s Chief Working Officer, Hajiya Fatima Musa-Aliyu, stated the summit reaffirmed a collective imaginative and prescient for inclusive and transformative schooling in Kano.

    “At BCAI, we imagine that schooling is greater than a coverage precedence—it’s a shared promise of dignity, alternative and hope,” he stated.

    Muhammad stated BCAI’s experiences throughout Northern Nigeria have proven that schooling, particularly for ladies, is a strong device for neighborhood transformation.

    He added that by way of collaboration with the Kano State Authorities and the help of the Malala Fund, the summit goals to shift discussions from entry to accountability, and from coverage to actual transformation.

    One of many main highlights of BCAI’s intervention, he famous, is the introduction of the Gender-Responsive Training Budgeting (GREB) Framework, designed to boost fairness, transparency and accountability in schooling financing.

    Additionally talking, Chief Government Officer of the Malala Fund Nigeria, Ms. Nabila Aguele, represented by Sani Muhammad, counseled the Kano State Authorities for adopting the GREB framework, describing it as a significant milestone in selling gender fairness in schooling.

    “This can be a important step in the direction of constructing an inclusive and resilient schooling system that leaves no woman behind,” she stated, reaffirming the Malala Fund’s continued help to the state and civil society companions in making certain each woman has entry to high quality schooling.

    On his half, Kano State Commissioner for Training, Dr. Ali Haruna-Makoda, reiterated the federal government’s dedication to equitable schooling, describing it as key to social and financial transformation.

    He famous that following the declaration of a state of emergency on schooling, the state elevated its schooling price range from 29.75 % in 2024 to 31.5 % in 2025.

    Based on him, the federal government has restored boarding amenities in ladies’ faculties, recruited academics, and supplied free uniforms and transportation to spice up enrollment and retention.

    “Now we have rehabilitated over 70 % of the women’ shuttle buses, expanded infrastructure throughout all 44 native authorities areas, and prioritised privacy-friendly amenities equivalent to bogs for feminine college students,” the commissioner stated.

    He added that over 16,700 faculty safety guards had been authorised for recruitment throughout the state’s 44 LGAs below the Secure School Initiative to boost scholar security.

    The summit additionally featured discussions on coverage reforms, financing accountability, grassroots participation and collaborative approaches for sustaining progress in ladies’ schooling.

    The BAGE mission, carried out by BCAI with help from the Malala Fund, seeks to advertise equitable schooling financing and drive sustainable reforms that empower ladies in Kano to study, lead and thrive.
