Following the resignation of the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, from the Individuals’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has known as on the Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) to declare his seat vacant.
New Telegraph had earlier reported that Diri resigned from the PDP alongside members of the Bayelsa State Home of Meeting on Wednesday, sparking hypothesis that he could also be set to hitch the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the event in a submit on his Instagram web page, Okonkwo argued that Diri had mechanically vacated his seat as governor by resigning from his occasion and never belonging to any political occasion.
Okonkwo cited Part 177(c) of the 1999 Structure (as amended), which stipulates that an individual shall be certified for election to the workplace of governor if he’s “a member of a political occasion and is sponsored by that political occasion.”

Okonkwo wrote, “Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has simply vacated his seat as governor by resigning from the PDP and never belonging to any occasion.
