    ASUU Declares Two-Week Warning Strike

    Nigeria’s Tutorial Workers Union of Universities (ASUU) on Sunday declared a two-week whole and complete warning strike throughout all public universities, regardless of ongoing negotiations with the federal government over funding and welfare points.

    ASUU Nationwide President, Professor Chris Piwuna, introduced the economic motion at a press briefing on the College of Abuja, saying the strike would begin from midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.

    “Compatriots of the press, it goes with out saying that there’s nothing enough on floor to cease the implementation of the ASUU-NEC’s decision to embark on a two-week warning strike on the expiry of the 14-day discover given on September 28,” Piwuna mentioned.

    He added that each one college branches of the union had been directed to withdraw their companies instantly, describing the strike as “whole and complete.”

    The transfer marks the newest standoff between the lecturers and the Federal Authorities, which has struggled for years to resolve disputes over wage arrears, college funding, and implementation of the 2009 ASUU-Federal Authorities Settlement.

    Final week, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa mentioned the federal government was within the closing stage of talks with ASUU and different unions to avert one other shutdown of tertiary establishments.

    He added that ₦50 billion had been launched for Earned Tutorial Allowances, whereas ₦150 billion had been earmarked within the 2025 price range for wants evaluation, to be disbursed in three tranches.
