    NAFDAC Destroys N15bn Value Of Counterfeit, Banned Medicine In Ibadan

    The Nationwide Company for Meals and Drug Administration and Management (NAFDAC) on Thursday started the destruction of counterfeit, expired, banned, and unwholesome pharmaceutical merchandise and consumables valued at over ₦15 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

    Talking on behalf of the Director-Common of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the company’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, stated the transfer was a part of NAFDAC’s renewed efforts to rid the nation of harmful and substandard merchandise.

    The merchandise destroyed included Analgin, Cocodamol, codeine cough syrups, tramadol, oxytocin, falsified vaccines, and different unregistered or counterfeit medicines, with an estimated road worth of ₦15 billion.

    Prof. Adeyeye disclosed that current enforcement operations intercepted a consignment disguised as diclofenac, which was discovered to be anti-malaria medicine price tens of millions of naira. She additionally cited raids on unlawful beauty factories inside a army barracks in Lagos, and seizures of contraband nationwide.

    She recommended the Nigeria Customs Service for handing over 25 containers of pharmaceutical merchandise, together with tramadol, artesunate injection, codeine-based syrups, and prohibited frozen rooster, all of which have been destroyed on the website.

    “We’re resolutely dedicated to making sure that meals, medicine, cosmetics, medical units, chemical substances, packaged water, and drinks consumed in Nigeria are protected, healthful, and efficient. The destruction of those merchandise eliminates the danger of their re-entry into circulation,” she said.

    Prof. Adeyeye urged Nigerians, particularly group leaders, well being practitioners, non secular leaders, and the media, to accentuate public enlightenment on the hazards of patronizing quacks and unauthorized drugs distributors.

    Additionally talking, NAFDAC Oyo State Director, Mr. Samuel Adeyemi, reiterated the company’s zero tolerance for substandard and unregulated merchandise, urging the general public to report suspicious actions.
