    UI Goes After Pupil Leaders, Summons Activist Over Charge Hike Protest

    The administration of the University of Ibadan has summoned pupil activist Ayodele Aduwo and two others to look earlier than the Pupil Disciplinary Committee over alleged misconduct, together with obstruction of a swearing-in ceremony and unruly behaviour.

    “The continued victimization of my colleagues and me by the University of Ibadan administration, merely for opposing the latest price hikes, is unjust, unacceptable, and should be unequivocally condemned,” he mentioned.

    “No establishment that claims to face for tutorial freedom ought to resort to silencing dissent by intimidation. Sure, we stay undeterred. We name on college students, employees, and the broader public to face with us in demanding a direct finish to this sustained repression.     The disciplinary case involving Aduwo, Olamide Gbadegeshin, and Good Linus has drawn criticism from rights organisations, together with Amnesty Worldwide.

    In an announcement, Amnesty Worldwide urged the college to “rescind plans to expel 3 college students for exercising their human proper; by taking part in protest towards outrageous price hike that — to date — pressured many college students to withdraw from college training.”

    It added, “Within the face of the worst financial disaster, universities needs to be lowering charges, not rising them wantonly. In utter disregard for the influence of the present financial hardship, some universities elevated their charges by 1000%. This poses a menace to guaranteeing the best to high quality training for all.”
