Nationwide Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has stated there may be nothing inherently unsuitable with Nigeria evolving right into a one-party state, offered it displays the desire of the folks.

Ganduje made the remarks on Friday on the Presidential Villa in Abuja, shortly after main three senators from Kebbi State—Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki—to satisfy with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The senators, previously of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had simply introduced their defection to the APC.

Requested whether or not the rising wave of defections to the ruling get together may push Nigeria in direction of a one-party system, Ganduje stated such a improvement wouldn’t be detrimental if it occurs naturally and democratically.

“If a one-party state is a want and blessing to Nigeria… a one-party state just isn’t by power,” Ganduje defined. “One get together’s state is by negotiation, and it’s by different political events seeing the impact of the constructive governance of our get together. In the event that they determine to return to our get together willingly, I believe there may be nothing unsuitable with that.”

He argued that an overcrowded political area can hinder good governance. “You realize they are saying too many cooks spoil the soup — too many political events spoil governance,” he stated.

Citing examples from world politics, Ganduje pointed to China as a profitable mannequin of one-party governance. “China is among the strongest international locations on the earth, and it’s a one-party system,” he famous. “We’re not saying we’re working for a one-party system, but when that’s the want of Nigerians, we can’t quarrel with that.”

On the aim of the go to to the President, Ganduje stated it was to hunt Tinubu’s endorsement of the senators’ choice. “We got here right here in order that Mr President can bless this decision, and Mr President has graciously blessed this decision. On Tuesday, I urge you to go and see what is going to occur within the chambers,” he acknowledged confidently.
