A personnel of the Nigerian Navy and two others kidnapped by gunmen in Abuja have been rescued, police authorities stated yesterday.
The feminine naval officer hooked up to the Directorate of Media Operations (DMO), Defence Headquarters (DHQ), and the 2 others have been kidnapped from their residence within the Mpape space of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday night time.
It was learnt that the abductors had already contacted their households and demanded a whopping sums as ransom for his or her instant launch.
Nevertheless, it’s unclear if any sum was paid to facilitate their launch. However the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, stated the discharge adopted a joint operation led by the Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and comprising of personnel of the Nigerian army, DSS, and members of the native Hunters’ Group.
“At roughly 7:35 PM on the stated date, closely armed assailants attacked the Maman Vatsa Property gate, blocked Mpape Street, and opened fireplace on transferring autos earlier than abducting the three victims.
Shortly after the assault, the abductors contacted the victims’ households, demanding a ransom of N500 million for the naval officer and N200 million every for the 2 civilians,” she stated.
“Upon receiving the misery report, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), FCT Police Command, DCP Isyaku Sharu, in collaboration with army authorities, mobilised a joint operation led by the Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and comprising of personnel of the Nigerian army, DSS hunters, and members of the native Hunters’ Group.”
She stated an intense search-andrescue operation was performed throughout Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, masking areas within the FCT and Nasarawa State.
The Command’s spokesperson said that performing on credible intelligence, between 2:00 am and 5:30 am on March 23, 2025, operatives traced the suspects to a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills, Nasarawa State.
