President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized a $500,000 contribution to cowl Nigeria’s excellent obligations to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for the 2022–2023 interval.
The Minister of Housing and City Improvement, Arc. Musa Dangiwa, introduced this on Wednesday through the second assembly of the UN-Habitat 2024 Government Board, which he chaired in Nairobi, Kenya, as disclosed in an announcement from the ministry on Thursday.
This contribution is a part of Nigeria’s monetary dedication below the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UN-Habitat and can immediately help the operations of the UN-Habitat Nation Workplace in Nigeria.
Arc. Dangiwa emphasised that the funding would strengthen Nigeria’s partnership with UN-Habitat, advancing capacity-building, advisory providers, and multi-bilateral fund mobilization efforts to drive sustainable urbanization and housing improvement within the nation.
“We acknowledge the essential significance of enhanced funding to help UN-Habitat’s targets and admire the contributions of member states and companions on this regard. Nigeria stays steadfast in its dedication to UN-Habitat. Simply final week, our President authorized a $500,000 contribution to cowl Nigeria’s excellent obligations for 2022–2023, reaffirming our dedication to the group by our partnership framework,” Dangiwa said.
The assertion highlighted that Nigeria’s contribution aligns with the phrases of the MoU for the 2022–2027 interval, fostering collaboration on key initiatives corresponding to sustainable housing improvement, infrastructure enchancment, and addressing urbanization challenges. The partnership goals to leverage each nationwide and worldwide experience and assets to sort out Nigeria’s rising city challenges.
