The House of Representatives has confirmed Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Oluyede’s confirmation on Thursday came after the review and approval of the report of the ad hoc committee that reviewed him on Wednesday.
The Senate has reportedly conducted a closed review of Oluyede, which was conducted by Oluyede. The Senate committee is chaired by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua.
On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu wrote to the Senate notifying it of Oluyede’s nomination and seeking confirmation as COAS.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee, Babajimi Benson, presented the committee’s review report, noting that they had thoroughly reviewed Oluyede’s resume and raised questions on national security. His responses were deemed satisfactory.
Benson said the committee was confident in Oluyede’s qualifications and suitability for the post of COAS and therefore recommended his confirmation.
After reviewing each section, the House unanimously approved the appointment of Oluyede Chief of Army Staff by voice vote.
