An Oyo State High Court Justice Bayo Taiwo yesterday adjourned the hearing of the case between the state and Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as the ‘Assisting Witness’, to December 5.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ibadan the judge of Fiat Court No. 2, Ring Road, adjourned the hearing as the trial of 63-year-old Lamidi resumes.
Lamidi, a former Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Parks Management System (PMS) in Oyo State, had his case assigned to him by Justice O. A. Adetujoye of Fiat Court No. 5.
His lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, on November 4, objected to Adetujoye hearing his client’s two cases. This resulted in the file being sent back to the Chief Judge of the state for reassignment. After the hearing resumed, Lamidi pleaded not guilty to the 18 charges against him.
The prosecution team led by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. S. O. Adeoye, opened the trial by calling witnesses to appear before the court.
Two witnesses, Fatai Isiaka and Ademola Johnson, were called to give oral evidence while 16 other witnesses were scheduled to testify against the accused. The eyewitnesses in their respective statements reported how Lamidi attacked some suspected faction members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which is banned in the state.
