The police in Borno State over the weekend recovered eight unexploded units from the Dala and Gwange areas of Maiduguri.
An announcement by its spokesperson, ASP Grace Michael, stated that the recoveries adopted a misery name about some unidentified objects suspected to be explosives close to an uncompleted constructing in Dala-Abuja Talakawa Space, Maiduguri.
“Our Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Organic, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 staff responded swiftly, recovering six projectiles and one unexploded mortar bomb, which had been safely relocated to a safe web site.
“Later that day, at about 1 p.m., one other report was acquired from the Gwange space concerning a suspicious object alongside the riverbank. The EODCBRN staff was deployed to the scene and recovered an unexploded hand grenade.
“Preliminary investigations counsel that the ordnance had been displaced and washed ashore by latest devastating floods within the state,” she stated.
The police, she stated, had carried out an Explosive Ordnance Threat Consciousness (EORE) coaching for residents of each communities, educating them on security measures.
She quoted the Commissioner of Police within the state, Mr Yusufu Lawal, as reaffirming the command’s dedication to making sure public security.
