    NPC to Look at Social, Biomedical Causes of Baby Deaths

    The Federal Commissioner of the Nationwide Inhabitants Fee (NPC) in Cross River State, Alex Ukam, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Well being, has launched the 2024 Nigeria Verbal and Social Post-mortem (VASA) Survey in 16 native authorities areas of the state.

    The survey goals to research the causes of toddler mortality and scale back preventable deaths.

    Ukam said that the present VASA research builds on earlier research performed between 2014 and 2019, which supplied knowledge to form well being insurance policies.

    He defined that the survey will study each the biomedical and social causes of deaths amongst youngsters beneath 5 and girls of reproductive age to assist the federal government develop options.

    Ukam added that the research will gather data on maternal and youngster mortality, specializing in components contributing to those deaths.

    The info collected will assist policymakers tackle points and develop methods to enhance maternal and youngster well being in Cross River State and past.

    The fieldwork is scheduled for November 4 to December 15, 2024, throughout chosen communities.

    Information collectors from the Fee will go to households to conduct interviews with relations and collect data on maternal and youngster deaths.

    Ukam known as on people, neighborhood leaders, and the media to assist the survey.

    He urged communities to cooperate with interviewers and warranted that each one data collected would stay confidential.
