    Ondo Election: No Room for Quasi-Safety Outfits, IGP Warns

    Forward of the Ondo State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16, 2024, the Inspector-Basic of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has banned quasi-security outfits, together with Amotekun and Vigilante Corps, from collaborating in election safety.

    The IGP emphasised that solely federal safety companies and members of the Inter-Company Consultative Committee on Election Safety might be concerned.

    In a press release issued on Sunday by Pressure spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP acknowledged that the police are targeted on guaranteeing a peaceable election throughout all 18 Native Authorities Areas, 203 Wards, and three,933 Polling Items within the state.

    Egbetokun has organized safety measures, together with the deployment of specialised models and tools to safe the election.

    “The deployment will embrace officers from models such because the Particular Intervention Squad, Police Cellular Pressure, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Particular Safety Unit, and Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit,” Adejobi mentioned.

    He added that the deployment additionally consists of Ok-9 models, the Federal Investigation and Intelligence Response Group, and the Federal Intelligence and Safety Activity Pressure.

    Adejobi outlined that police helicopters will conduct aerial patrols, and gunboats will patrol waterways and riverine areas in Ondo State.

    “These measures goal to discourage any makes an attempt to disrupt the electoral course of,” he mentioned, noting that every one actions will adhere to the rules of the Electoral Act, 2022, to assist a good election.

    The IGP additionally warned towards election-related violence or disruptions.

    “Political thugs or teams planning any type of disruption will face the regulation,” Adejobi acknowledged, affirming that such actions won’t go unpunished.
