The Nigerian Medical Affiliation (NMA), Kano State Department, has introduced an indefinite withdrawal of medical providers at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital ranging from midday immediately, following an unresolved assault case involving a feminine physician on the hospital’s Emergency Paediatric Unit.

The incident reportedly concerned the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Amina Abdullahi HOD prompting the NMA to take motion after a 48-hour ultimatum to the state authorities yielded no passable response.

An investigation by the Kano State Ministry of Well being exonerated the physician, confirming she acted appropriately in the course of the incident. Nevertheless, the dearth of response from the Kano State Authorities has escalated tensions.

“The investigation confirmed that the physician was not at fault,” stated Dr. Muhammad Aminu Musa, the NMA’s Public Relations Officer. “But, there was no motion to carry the Commissioner accountable.”

The NMA outlined three calls for that should be addressed earlier than providers resume on the hospital, which embody the fast dismissal of the Commissioner, assembly the minimal benchmark for healthcare personnel to deal with understaffing, and implementing enhanced safety measures for healthcare employees and sufferers throughout all hospital items.

“Docs are working underneath circumstances that threaten their security and that of their sufferers,” added Dr. Musa. “The federal government should act to make sure a protected working setting for medical personnel.”

Because the withdrawal begins, sufferers counting on providers at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital are urged to hunt various healthcare services till the problems are resolved.
