The Federal Authorities has unveiled two new rooster breeds and 14 high-yield crop varieties geared toward boosting agricultural productiveness and enhancing the dietary well-being of Nigerians.
The announcement was made on Thursday in the course of the thirty fourth assembly of the Nationwide Committee on Naming, Registration, and Launch of Crop Varieties, Livestock Breeds/Fisheries.
Chairman of the Nationwide Selection Launch Committee (NVRC), Prof. Soji Olufajo, presided over the session, which was attended by committee members, researchers, geneticists, scientists, and breeders.
Mr. Olufajo defined that the approval of the 2 new rooster breeds and the seven crop varieties got here after suggestions from two technical sub-committees. “The brand new rooster breeds, Noiler and Cobb 500, together with high-yielding types of wheat, barley, maize, cassava, rice, castor, and conchorus, have been formally launched,” he said.
The technical sub-committee, chaired by Prof. S. Ado, reviewed 19 crop varieties throughout its thirty eighth assembly on Tuesday and really useful 14 for NVRC’s ultimate approval.
