    Lagos govt to ban textile waste at Lagos landfills in 3 months

    The Lagos State Authorities has introduced plans to ban textile waste from all landfills throughout the state inside the subsequent three months.  

    Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Administration Authority (LAWMA), made the announcement on the Lagos Style Week, organised by Type Home Recordsdata, in collaboration with the Round Enterprise Platform and the Workplace of the Lagos State Particular Adviser on Local weather Change and Round Economic system, on Saturday. 

    The disclosure was contained in a press release on the official web site of the Lagos State Authorities.   

    Gbadegesin defined the motivation behind the ban, stating, “Having found the numerous environmental affect of textile waste dumped at our landfills, which contains about eight per cent of the waste deposited, together with its contribution to useful resource depletion, and the potential for creating financial and social advantages by way of sustainable options like recycling and accountable consumption, now we have determined to ban textile waste in any respect our landfills. This may take impact in three months.”   

    He additionally highlighted ongoing partnerships centered on managing textile waste, noting that LAWMA is collaborating with Tejuosho Market in Yaba to gather textile waste for switch to recycling firms.  

    Moreover, the LAMWA Managing Director disclosed that college students on the LAWMA Academy are being skilled to upcycle textile waste into sensible merchandise, selling sustainable practices. 

    The Lagos State Authorities has intensified waste administration efforts by banning varieties of waste deemed dangerous to the setting, similar to Styrofoam meals containers and single-use plastics (SUPs), alongside forging strategic worldwide partnerships.  

    As a part of this broader initiative, Lagos is decommissioning older landfills to make room for brand spanking new waste administration initiatives that may assist a cleaner, extra sustainable setting throughout the metropolis.
